Biography

Robert N. Shelton (born 1948) was the president of the University of Arizona. Before beginning his position on 1 July 2006, he served as the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His starting salary at Arizona was reportedly $550,000. In mid-June 2011, he announced he would be resigning to begin directing the Fiesta Bowl.

An expert in condensed matter physics, he received his B.S. from Stanford University and his M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of California, San Diego.
