Biography

Robert Daniels (born August 30, 1966 in Miami, FL), is an American professional boxer in the Cruiserweight division.

Professional career

Daniels, known as "Preacherman," turned pro in 1984 and in 1989 he captured the vacant World Boxing Association (WBA) cruiserweight title by defeating a badly faded 36-year-old Dwight Muhammad Qawi. He defended the title twice before losing the title to Bobby Czyz in 1991 in a close split decision.

He continued to fight as both a cruiserweight and heavyweight through 1997. In his highest profile fights as a heavyweight, he lost to Lawrence Clay-Bey and David Tua.

Daniels, at the age of 48, is returning to boxing in September 2016, for his first bout in four years for Daniels. Prior to that bout, he didn't fight for five years, making this comeback his third fight in nearly 10 years. Daniels became world champion in 1989 by defeating Dwight Muhammad Qawi in France for the vacant WBA cruiserweight title, holding it until his third defense, a controversial split decision loss to Bobby Czyz in Atlantic City. His professional record stands at 49 wins, 10 losses, 1 draw, and 41 wins coming by knockout.

Robert Daniels was managed by Michael Frost, the boxing manager and former marketing agent for Gary Shefield, Jeff Conine, Robb Nenn, Bret Barberie, and others.
