Richard Lewis Burger (born 1950), PhD (UC Berkeley 1978), is an American archaeologist and anthropologist. He is currently Professor of Anthropology at Yale University. He has carried excavations since 1975 publishing several books and many articles on Chavin culture, an extinct, prehistoric civilization that developed in the northern Andean highlands of Peru from 900 BC to 200 BC.
