Biography

Rebekah Horton (1929 - 2020) was an American educational administrator. She and her husband Arlin Horton founded Pensacola Christian College in Pensacola, Florida, in 1974.

Early life and Education

Rebekah Horton was born on 23 Jul 1929 in Tennessee. She felt God's call to full-time Christian service when she was 15. She attended a Christian college in South Carolina, where she met Arlin Horton; the two got married before their senior year at the college.

Career

The Hortons taught high school at a Presbyterian boarding school in Kentucky for one year, before moving to Pensacola, Florida, in 1952, at the request of community members who desired to start a Christian school. In 1954, they started a small Christian school with kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades with 35 students and a goal to have 100 students someday. More grades were added and they moved the school to the Brent area in Escambia County, Florida.

In 1974, Rebekah and Arlin Horton co-founded Pensacola Christian College (PCC), which opened with 100 students and quickly grew each year thereafter. Arlin served as its president and Rebekah was the Sr. Vice President.

In May 2012, the couple retired after 60 years of faithful ministry. They were honored with "Diamond Jubilee" for their service.

In 1972, Rebekah also founded A Beka Book, a book publisher later affiliated with Pensacola Christian College that produces K-12 curriculum materials that are used by Christian schools and homeschooling families around the world. In 2017, the company was rebranded as Abeka and all Abeka products—including Abeka Academy—became available at abeka.com in digital format.

Death Rebekah Horton died on 27 Jun 2020 in Pensacola, Escambia County, Florida.
