Biography

Becca Brown (born August 18, 1992) is an American actress, comedian, and musician, recognized for her role as Katie in the 2003 film School of Rock

Early life

Becca Brown was born Rebecca Julia Brown on August 18, 1992, in Chicago, Illinois. She is of Filipino, Russian, and Spanish descent.

Career

Brown began playing the guitar at age four. When she was nine, she appeared on the NPR radio program From the Top. The recognition from the show led to her being discovered and cast in the director Richard Linklater's 2003 comedy film School of Rock (starring Jack Black, Adam Pascal, and Lucas Papaelias). She was given the nickname "Reeba Deeba" by School of Rock castmate Jack Black.

Brown studied guitar at the Chicago Institute of Music and learned to play bass and cello specifically for her role in School of Rock.

She is also active in the Chicago theater circuit: she has performed in Gerard Alessandrini's Spamilton, a parody of Hamilton that premiered at the Triad Theater in New York, and the Chicago premiere of American Idiot. She has worked with The Second City in Chicago on several sketch revues and has performed improv, sketch, and standup at iO, Laugh Factory, and many more staples of the Chicago comedy scene.

She attended the School at Steppenwolf, Second City and iO's training centers, and the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Television appearances

In 2017, Brown was featured on Joe Swanberg's comedy-drama anthology TV series Easy. In 2019, she contested in the first season of NBC's Bring The Funny. She was eliminated in the fourth week; the show was won by the group "The Valleyfolk" comprising former SourceFed hosts Joe Bereta, Elliott Morgan, Lee Newton, and Steve Zaragoza. In the second place was Tacarra Williams and the other finalists were Ali Siddiq, Lewberger, and The Chris and Paul Show (Christopher John O'Neill and Paul Valenti).

Around the time School of Rock was being released, Brown made an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on 26 September 2003 and in the following month, she was seen on The Sharon Osbourne Show.
