Rachel Elkind-Tourre

Rachel Elkind (born February 23, 1939) is an American classical musician, producer and composer, known for producing the work of Wendy Carlos, such as her October 1968 album Switched-On Bach.

Biography

Elkind grew up in San Francisco. She moved to New York City hoping to be a jazz singer. She worked closely with Wendy Carlos from 1967 to 1980, when she moved to France with her husband, Yves Tourre. Carlos considers Elkind's contribution to her work underappreciated. Elkind's singing voice was processed via a vocoder on several Carlos recordings.

In 1971, Elkind produced the "One Voice Many" album by the rock band Michaelangelo, for Columbia Records. Also in 1971, she worked on the music score for Stanley Kubrick's 1971 film A Clockwork Orange, starring Malcolm McDowell and Patrick Magee. She wrote two songs for the film: "Biblical Daydreams" and "Country Lane."

She is also credited as co-composer of film score for Kubrick's 1980 horror film The Shining,starring Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall.

Most recently, in 2020, Elkind composed the score for Maxwell Whiteman's short comedy TULPA.
