Biography

Phillip James Holiday (born 23 May 1970 in Benoni, South Africa) is a former professional world boxing champion in the lightweight division who also competed as a welterweight and a junior middleweight later in his career. Holiday turned pro in 1991 and captured the Vacant IBF Lightweight Title in 1995 with a win over Miguel Julio. In his prime, Holiday was regarded as an undersized lightweight, however he defended his title six times, including a notable knockout victory over three divisional world champion Jeff Fenech, before eventually losing by decision in a hard fought battle against an undefeated "Sugar" Shane Mosley, who was rated at the time as the best pound for pound boxer in the world. In 2010, at age 40, Holiday made a comeback to the ring and won the Australian Junior Middleweight Title.
