Biography
Phan Wannamethee (30 January 1923) is a Thai diplomat and author. He served as Secretary-General of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations from 1984 to 1986. He was former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Director-General of the Department of International Organizations and Director-General of the Department of Civil Affairs, and serves as the Secretary-General of the Thai Red Cross.
Education and career
Phan Wannamethee holds a Bachelor's degree in History from Oberlin College and a Master of International Relations from the University of California, Berkeley, USA. When he was Secretary-General of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, he has an important role and is behind the draft of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia.
