Biography
Carol Porter Gabbard is an American politician. She is the mother of American politician Tulsi Gabbard, and wife of Democratic member of the Hawaii Senate, Mike Gabbard.
Background
Carol was born in Decatur, Indiana, and grew up in Michigan. She married Mike Gabbard in 1968. The couple has five children; Tulsi Gabbard, the current U.S. Representative for Hawaii, was born on April 12, 1981, in Leloaloa, American Samoa.
Carol identifies as a Hindu.
Political and business career
In the years 2000-2004, Carol served on the Hawaii State Board of Education.
From 1998 to 2007, Carol and Mike also owned and operated a toffee business called “Hawaiian Toffee Treasures.”
Later, in 2007, she with her husband, co-founded the Aloha Parenting Project (APP) - a grassroots non-profit organization that educates, supports, and helps parents raise children to become responsible, productive members of the community.
