Biography

Nagat Ali (born 1975) is an Egyptian poet. She was born and raised in Cairo. She studied Arabic literature at university, and is working on a PhD dissertation on Naguib Mahfouz. The author of three books of poetry, she was named as one of the Beirut39 list of young Arab writers.

Nagat Ali is Egyptian poet, essayist and a literary critic . she has PhD in Arabic literature . Ali has been Selected as one of the best writers as young people in Arab world Arab in Festival Beirut 39, 2009. She also awarded prizes both for her own collections of poetry and for her literary criticism and writings about the Egyptian authors Naguib Mahfouz and Yusuf Idriss. She has published the poetry collections ”Cracked Wall” (2009), ”Like the blade of a knife” (2010), ”A Superstitious Creature Adores Garrulousness” (2002) ,“Glass Tombs” (2019). Ali has also written about the Arabic Spring in her book "The road to Tahrir Square: daily life during the Egyptian revolution” (2019).
