Biography

Mélanie Gouby is a freelance journalist based in Nairobi, Kenya. A writer and video producer, she covers East and Central Africa for the French newspaper Le Figaro, and contributes to The Associated Press, Newsweek, France 24 and Vice, among others.

Career

From 2011 to 2014, Gouby lived in Goma, in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, where she covered the rise and fall of the M23 rebellion in Congo’s protracted war. She earned international recognition for her investigation into the British oil company Soco International’s activities in the Virunga National Park, featured in the Oscar-nominated documentary Virunga.
