Biography

Martin de Jonge (born 22 June 1981 in Rotterdam, Netherlands) is a former professional Dutch/Austrian badminton player.

Career

He started his career at the age of 6 at the local town badminton club and turned professional at age 16. At the age of 17 he decided to move to Austria, to join the Austrian national team. In the following years he participated in world championships, major grand prix tournaments and won the national men’s doubles title twice.

He got a severe Achilles tendon injury in 2004. Surgery was followed by two years of recovery, but without any improvement. In 2006 he decided to quit playing badminton at a professional level.

Post-badminton career

He finished studying at Vienna medical school and currently works in the Netherlands.
