Biography

Margaret Alexander, Countess Alexander of Tunis DBE DStJ (16 September 1905 – 17 August 1977), born Lady Margaret Bingham, was a daughter of George Bingham, Lord Bingham (later the Earl of Lucan). On 14 October 1931, she married Hon. Harold Alexander (a future field marshal and viscount) and they had four children.
In 1946, on her husband's appointment as Governor General of Canada, she became Vice-regal consort, and Châtelaine of Rideau Hall. In 1952 in recognition of this she was made a Dame Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire.
In 1970, while living at Windsor Great Park, she was appointed a Deputy Lord Lieutenant of the county of Berkshire. She died in 1977, aged 71.
