Lita Gaithers Owens (born July 30) is an African-American singer-songwriter, actress, and Tony Award-nominated co-author of the Broadway musical It Ain't Nothin' But the Blues, which was nominated for 4 Tony Awards including Best Musical in 1999. Lita, who received a nomination for the Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical, is one of a handful of women who have been nominated in this category. As a veteran performer of the theatre, her lead and featured stage performances include being an original cast member of Blues, The Tin Pan Alley Rag, Ain’t Misbehavin' , Nunsense, Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, A…My Name is Alice, Purlie, and For Colored Girls Who Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf. Lita is married to the Reverend Oscar Otis Owens, Jr., and lives in Los Angeles, California.
