Biography

Laura Miller is an American journalist and critic based in New York City. She is a co-founder of Salon.com.

Biography

Miller was raised as a Catholic and grew up in California. She has since said she deplores the Church's "guilt-mongering and tedious rituals."

Career

In 1995, Miller helped to co-found Salon.com. She has been a frequent contributor to the New York Times Book Review, where she wrote the "Last Word" column for two years. Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, the Los Angeles Times, Time, the Wall Street Journal, The Guardian and other publications.

In 2000 she edited The Salon.com Reader's Guide to Contemporary Authors with Adam Begley. She is the author of The Magician's Book: A Skeptic's Adventures in Narnia, a book about C.S. Lewis's The Chronicles of Narnia fantasy series, her enchantment with it as a child, and her disenchantment with it when she realized its heavy-handed Christian parallels as an adult.

Currently she is Slate's Books and Culture columnist.
