Biography

Ladislao Esaú Nerio Cortez (10 November 1976 – 1 February 2012) was a professional football player, who played for several teams in the Salvadoran Premier League.

Club career

Nerio started his career at local side Sonsonate before joining Salvadoran second division side Platense in 2004, almost helping them to promotion.

In 2006, after joining Águila, he helped them by winning the Apertura 2006. In 2007 he left them for Luis Ángel Firpo, only to join Alianza a year later. After a year at Once Municipal, he was loaned to ADI for six month before ending his career at UES, where he played in defence alongside Luis Anaya and Ramiro Carballo.

Death

Nerio was reported missing on Tuesday 31 January 2012 and finally his body was found in Sonsonate the day after, near six other people's bodies. His hand and feet were reportedly tied and he appeared to be strangled to death. Police announced he was presumably murdered by gang members. He was buried next to his brother Livio Efrén Nerio, who was murdered in 2006.
