Biography

Jorge Sarsfield (c. 1718-1782) was an Irish landowner, who migrated to the city of Cordoba, Argentina towards the middle of the 18th century. He was the grandfather of Dalmacio Vélez Sársfield, author of the Argentine civil code.

Life

George Sarsfield was born in Ireland, the son of a prestigious Jacobite family, linked to the Irish brigades who served in France. He had arrived in Cordoba in mid-1750. He had a small ranch dedicated to agriculture. He was married twice, first María Josefa Palacios (born in Córdoba), and after with Marta Mercedes de Albarracín.

Jorge Sarsfield was the maternal grandfather of Dalmacio Vélez Sársfield, a prestigious lawyer and politician of Argentina. The Sarfield family were descendants of Patrick Sarsfield, 1st Earl of Lucan.
