Biography

John Danzenbaker (April 11, 1919 – July 14, 2008) was a birdwatcher credited with 7,535 species on his Life List when he died on July 14, 2008. His lifelong passion for finding and studying birds was interrupted by World War II. John served in the US Army from 1942 to 1964. He was wounded twice during the Invasion of Normandy. He later served in England, France, Japan, Korea, and Iran and retired as a Lt. Colonel. John was a Fellow of the Delaware Valley Ornithological Society and a member of Atlantic Audubon and Friends of Forsythe. His travels in search of birds took him to 70 countries. When not traveling, John conducted field surveys for the International Shorebird Surveys (ISS). He is mentioned in the book To See Every Bird on Earth: A Father, a Son, and a Lifetime Obsession by Dan Koeppel.
