Biography

Jheanelle Wilkins is an activist and American politician who serves as a delegate to the Maryland General Assembly representing Maryland's District 20.

Personal life

Wilkins was born on May 29, 1988 in Kingston, Jamaica. She earned a bachelor of arts degree in sociology from the University of Delaware and a masters of public administration in social policy from American University.

Political career

Wilkins was appointed to the Maryland House of Delegates, filling the vacancy created when William C. Smith, Jr. was appointed to the Maryland Senate after Jamie Raskin resigned after winning a seat in the United States Congress. She's the first African American woman to represent District 20 in the Maryland House of Delegates. In 2014, she was elected to the Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee (MCDCC), representing District 20.
