Biography

Jan-Eric Sundgren (born 1951), is a Swedish engineer and Senior Vice President at Volvo Group. Before that position he was a Professor of Physics at Linköping University and Rector at Chalmers University of Technology.
Sundgren received his M.S. in Electrical Engineering and Applied Physics in 1974 from Linköping Institute of Technology. After a brief stint at Ericsson he returned to Linköping University and received his doctorate in Physics in 1982. His doctoral advisor was Professor Stig Hagström.

Career

In 1985-1986 he did postdoctoral work at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Thereafter he returned to Linköping University to become a Professor of Physics in 1990. He was also Vice Praeses of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences.

In 1998-2005 he was the Rector of Chalmers University of Technology.
