James Woods was an English professional footballer who played as an inside forward. He joined Burnley in January 1885 and played in several of the club's early friendlies prior to the advent of the Football League in 1888. Woods made only one league appearance for Burnley, deputising for Scottish forward Pat Gallocher in the 1–5 defeat away at Accrington on 1 December 1888. He left the club in 1889.
