James C. Smith (born 1960/61) is an American businessman, the president and chief executive (CEO) of Thomson Reuters, a multinational mass media and information company.

Early life

James Smith is a native of Carlisle, Kentucky. He is a graduate of Marshall University, which he attended on a football scholarship.

Career

Smith started his career as a journalist, rising to managing editor of the Charleston Daily Mail, which was acquired by Thomson Newspapers in 1987. Smith has been the president and chief executive (CEO) of Thomson Reuters since 2012.

Since June 2014, he has been a director of Pfizer.

Honours

In 2013, Smith receive an honorary doctorate from Marshall University.

Personal life

He lives in Stamford, Connecticut, with his wife Pam Kushmerick. He has four sons.
