Biography

Isabel d'Albret of Navarre (1512–1555) was the daughter of John III of Navarre (died 1516) and Catherine I of Navarre, sister and heiress of Francis Phoebus, King of Navarre. As heir apparent, her brother rose to the throne in 1517 as Henry II of Navarre, grandfather of King Henry III of Navarre (Henry IV of France).

Children

Isabel married René I de Rohan, Viscount of Rohan. They had five children:

  • Françoise de Rohan, married to Jacques de Savoie, duc de Nemours
  • Louis de Rohan, seigneur de Gié
  • Henri I de Rohan, 19th Viscount de Rohan
  • Jean de Rohan
  • René II, de Rohan, 20th Viscount de Rohan; the father of Henri, duc de Rohan, whose efforts in the French Wars of Religion would result in Louis XIII of France signing the Treaty of Montpellier reaffirming the Edict of Nantes.
