Ignatius bar Wahib was Patriarch of Mardin from 1293 until his death in 1332.

Biography

Zakhi was born in the thirteenth century in Mardin, son of Abraham, and studied at the Monastery of Mor Hananyo where he also became a monk. Zakhi was ordained metropolitan of Mardin and took the name Ignatius before he was consecrated as Patriarch of Mardin on 1st of January 1293. In 1303, Ignatius issued ten canons at a council. As patriarch, Ignatius ordained twenty metropolitans and bishops before his death in 1332.

Works

Ignatius is known to have written a treatise on the dimensions of church prayers as well as a thirty-page booklet called The Fundamentals in which he interprets the Syriac alphabet along spiritual themes, at the request of the monk Yusuf al-Kalshi.
