He was a founding member of University of Oxford's Department of Theoretical Chemistry in 1972. He was Professor of Mathematical Physics, University of Oxford, 1992-98, now Emeritus Professor. With a solid background in numerical analysis, Grant and co-workers pioneered many useful and versatile algorithms and methods ranging from "GRASP" (General Purpose Relativistic Atomic Structure Program) for relativistic atomic structure calculations based on 4-component methods to code generation tools for calculating molecular integrals.
Education: St Albans School, Hertfordshire; Wadham College, Oxford.
