Biography
Toriumi was born in Aizuwakamatsu, Kanagawa Pref., Japan. He became interested in filmmaking, then attended a screenwriting institute in college before joining Tatsunoko Production in 1966. Toriumi directed the Science Ninja Team Gatchaman anime television series, its three related projects, and several other Tatsunoko series of the 1970s including Tekkaman: The Space Knight and Hurricane Polymar. He broke away from Tatsunoko in 1979, briefly worked at Sunrise, then became one of the founding members of Studio Pierrot.
