Biography

Helmut A. Abt (born 1925) is an American astrophysicist, having worked at the National Optical Astronomy Observatory and an Elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

He received his B.S. in Mathematics from Northwestern University in 1946, M.S. in Physics from Northwestern University in 1948, and his Ph.D. in Astronomy from California Institute of Technology in 1952.

Awards and honors

The main-belt asteroid 9423 Abt, discovered by Spacewatch at Kitt Peak National Observatory in 1996, was named in his honor.
