Hawkins Taylor (November 15, 1811—November 6, 1893) was an American politician in Iowa.

Biography

Hawkins Taylor was born in Barren County, Kentucky, on November 15, 1811.

In 1836, he began traveling to Iowa Territory, and by August 1839, he had relocated to West Point in Lee County, Iowa.

In 1838, Taylor actively campaigned for a position in the Territorial Legislature and was elected to the House of Representatives of the First Legislative Assembly of the Iowa Territory, representing Lee County. In 1840, he was elected Sherriff of Lee County.

In 1868, Taylor and the family moved to Washington, D.C., where he worked as a lobbyist.

Personal life

In 1834, when he was living in Illinois, he married Melinda Walker.

Death

Hawkins Taylor died in Washington, D.C., on November 6, 1893, at age 82.
