Biography

Hosagrahar Visvesvaraya Jagadish (Jag) is a computer scientist in the field of database systems research. He is a Fellow of ACM, Fellow of AAAS, the Bernard A. Galler Collegiate Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, the director of MIDAS (Michigan Institute for Data Science), and a Senior Scientific Director of the National Center for Integrative Biomedical Informatics established by the National Institutes of Health. Prior to joining the Michigan faculty, he spent over a decade at AT&T Bell Laboratories as a research scientist where he would eventually become head of the Database division.

Jagadish earned his bachelor's degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi and a doctorate in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University in 1985.

He was elected Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery in 2003 and trustee of the VLDB Endowment in 2004. He was the founding editor of the Proceedings of the VLDB Endowment (PVLDB) in 2008. He was recognized with a Contributions Award by the ACM SIGMOD in 2013. In 2017, he was elected as Fellow of American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Jagadish sits on the Computer Science Advisory Board of University of the People.
