Biography
Grigory Alekseevich Rapota (Russian: Григорий Алексеевич Рапота) (born 5 February 1944) is a Russian politician and previous special representative of the Russian president in the Volga Federal District (from 12 May 2008 to 15 December 2011). Before that he was the special representative of the Russian president in the Southern Federal District (North Caucasus and southern European Russia).
Biography
Rapota was born in Moscow in 1944. His father was an army officer and his mother an educator. Rapota graduated from Bauman Moscow State Technical University and completed KGB re-training courses. He worked for KGB at the First Chief Directorate and in the USA 1971–1975, Sweden 1979–1983 (he was expelled from Sweden on 20 December, the Cheka Day), and Finland 1987–1990. In 1992–1993, Rapota was head of the Third Geographical Department, and 1993–1998, he was head of the First Chief Directorate. Since 1998 he has worked in different governmental posts.
