Biography

George Lawton (4 August 1862 – 1930) was an English footballer who played in the Football League for Stoke.

Career

Lawton played for Stoke St Peter's before joining Stoke in 1885, he played in both FA Cup matches in the 1885–86 season as Stoke lost to Crewe Alexandra in a replay. In January 1886 he joined nearby Burslem Port Vale, where he scored three times in thirteen friendlies, before returning to Stoke later in the year. He was a member of the Stoke squad during the first season of the Football League in 1888–89 where he played in 13 matches, scoring once against Burnley in a 4–3 victory. Stoke finished bottom of the table and at the end of the season Lawton joined Altrincham.
