Biography

Francesco Monti (1683 – 14 April 1768) was an Italian painter, of the late-Baroque.

Biography

Born in Bologna, and first a pupil of Sigismondo Caula in Modena (1700–1703), then of Giovanni Gioseffo dal Sole in Bologna. He worked in Brescia, starting in 1738, painting frescoes on the vault of the church of Santa Maria della Pace. In 1741 he frescoed in Santo Spirito along with the Giovanni Zanardi. Next he painted for the Chiesa del Patrocinio di M.V. sui Ronchi, in San Maurizio (1746), in Santa Maria del Carmine and in other regional churches such as San Zeno, Capo di Ponte, Chiari, Sale Marasino, and Zone. He also painted in Coccaglio (1745–1754). Among his pupils were Gaetano Sabadini and the priest Antonio Montelatici.

He died in Bergamo.
