Biography
Erman Kunter (born 8 October 1956 in İstanbul, Turkey) is a Turkish former professional basketball player and current head coach of Le Mans. He played for İTÜ, Beşiktaş, Eczacıbaşı, Yenişehir, Fenerbahçe, and Çukurova Sanayispor. He acquired French citizenship in September 2010 and since then, retains two citizenships (French and Turkish).
He scored 153 points of his team's 175 points against Hilalspor in 1988 (81 in the first half) which is still a record in Turkey.
He played 213 times for the Turkish national team and scored 3,626 points.
Coaching career
He coached Darüşşafaka, Beşiktaş, Turkey national basketball team and Galatasaray Istanbul in Turkey; and Cholet Basket, Asvel Villeurbanne and Le Mans in France. In 2010 he became champions of France with Cholet Basket. In June 2012, he signed with Beşiktaş as head coach. He returned to France to coach Le Mans in 2014.
Personal life
He is married to Sofia Ayten Kunter Hanımefendi, daughter of Osman Nami Osmanoğlu and great-granddaughter of Ottoman sultan Abdul Hamid II. They have one daughter named Roksan.
