Elisabeth Luther (10 December [O.S. 1 December] 1527 – 3 August [O.S. 25 July] 1528) was the first daughter and second child born to German priest and iconic figure of the Protestant Reformation, Martin Luther and his wife, Katharina von Bora. She did not survive infancy.
Elisabeth Luther was born on 10 December [O.S. 1 December] 1527 in Wittenberg as the second child but first daughter of the newly-wed couple, who had been married for just two years. The infant was born quite sickly, possibly due to her mother's exposure to the Black Death. Katharina wrote:
Little Elisabeth died on 3 August [O.S. 25 July] 1528 in Wittenberg and she was buried in the Stadtkirche Wittenberg.
