Biography

Dotsie Bausch (born March 6, 1973 in Lexington, Kentucky) is an American cyclist. She is a seven-time USA Cycling National Champion, and a two-time Pan American Champion. She graduated from Villanova University.

Careers

Bausch did not begin cycling until age 26; she originally took up the sport to "heal" from a period of cocaine use and eating disorders related to her time as a high-paid runway model in New York City. By the time she sought help for her condition, the 5-foot-9-inch (1.75 m) Bausch weighed less than 100 pounds (45 kg).

When Bausch began therapy for her condition, her therapist would not initially allow her to exercise. Her choice of cycling as a sport stemmed from directions by her therapist. After making initial progress, Bausch was allowed to resume exercise, but had to choose an activity she had not done while fighting eating disorders.

She competed in the women's pursuit cycling team for the United States at the 2012 Summer Olympics and won a silver medal.
