Biography

Dave Serlo (November 21, 1946 – June 25, 2010) was an American businessman. He is best known as the former President and CEO of PSCU. He was on the board of directors of Credit Union Miracle Day Inc. and NACUSO. He was also a member of Visa's card operations risk executive council.

Early life and education

Serlo was raised in Jeannette, Pennsylvania, a suburb near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He received a bachelor's degree in Business Education from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1968 and master's degree in 1970. In 1978, Serlo received his executive MBA from Loyola University Maryland.

Career

After graduating from university, Serlo taught business subjects at Latrobe High School while attending graduate school. In 1970, he was hired as an examiner for the National Credit Union Administration, a federal government agency that regulates and insures deposit in credit unions. Serlo was promoted to an executive-level position in Washington D.C. during his term. The Payment Systems for Credit Unions (PSCU), a credit union service organization, hired Serlo as its first full-time employee in 1983. He was appointed president and CEO of the organization. Serlo led PSCU's transition from the Telecredit platform to First Data's card platform. He worked in the credit union industry for about 33 years. In June 2010, Dave Serlo died from complications caused by cancer.

Recognition

In 2008, Serlo received the Ernst & Young Florida Entrepreneur Of The Year Award. He was recognized by Indiana University of Pennsylvania with the 2009 "Distinguished Alumni" award. Serlo supported the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, American Red Cross and Virginia's Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.
