Daren Tang Heng Shim (born 1972) has been Chief Executive of the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) since November 2015. On March 4, 2020, he won the nomination for the post of Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), with the backing of the United States. If confirmed by the WIPO General Assembly in an extraordinary session scheduled for May 7-8, 2020, Tang will succeed current WIPO Director General Francis Gurry on October 1, 2020.
Tang holds a degree from the Faculty of Law of the National University of Singapore, and an LL.M from the Georgetown University Law Centre.
