Biography
D. Michael Dunavant is an American lawyer and the United States Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee. He formerly served as the District Attorney General for the 25th Judicial District in Tennessee from 2006 to 2017.
Education and legal career
Dunavant received his B.A. from the University of Tennessee in 1992 and his J.D. from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1995. He was a lawyer at the firm of Carney, Wilder & Dunavant from 1995 to 2006. In 2006, Dunavant was named District Attorney General for the 25th Judicial District in Tennessee. In that role, he has been involved in major prosecutions, covering the full range of criminal offenses, in a geographic region spanning five counties.
United States Attorney
In June 2017, Dunavant was nominated by President Donald Trump to become the United States Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee. He was confirmed by the United States Senate on September 14, 2017; becoming the chief law-enforcement officer for the 22 counties that make up Tennessee's western judicial district, which includes the Memphis area.
