Biography

Craig Payne (born May 29, 1985) is a British former boxer best known for winning the ABA Championship (Amateur Boxing Association) in 2003.

Amateur

Payne, a 1979 graduate of Chillicothe (Ohio) High School, won the National Golden Gloves in 1983 beating a young Mike Tyson.

Payne also defeated Cuban boxing legends Teofilo Stevenson and Félix Savón.

Pro

After his first fight in 1985 he paused for a couple of years before returning in 1991. Payne's pro career was quite surpising largely because he was completely out of shape often coming in at 300 lbs. His least notable success was a KO of previously undefeated Samson Po'uha.
