Biography

Cindy May Meston is a Canadian clinical psychologist, and a professor at the University of Texas at Austin, and the director of the Sexual Psychophysiology Laboratory, perhaps best known for her research into the female orgasm. According to her book, Why Women Have Sex, there are 237 reasons.

Early life

Meston was born in British Columbia, Canada, and has US citizenship.

Education

In 1991, Meston received a bachelor's degree in psychology, in 1993, a master's degree in clinical psychology, and in 1995, a PhD in clinical psychology, all from the University of British Columbia.

Career

She is the co-author (with evolutionary psychologist David M. Buss) of Why Women Have Sex. Through interviewing 1006 women, they identified 237 reasons why women have sex, most of which "have little to do with romance or pleasure".

She was selected as one of the BBC's 100 Women for 2016, for her research into the female orgasm.
