Biography

Carl Adams (born 1950) is an American wrestler and coach.

Background and education

After a successful high school wrestling career at Brentwood High School (Brentwood, New York) in New York, he attended Iowa State University. During his college career, he wrestled at 158 pounds and was a three-time NCAA All-American and two-time national champion. He graduated in 1972.

Coaching

After spending time on the freestyle wrestling circuit, he began to coach. His first head coaching job was at the University of Rhode Island; after that program was cut as a result of Title IX, he took over the Boston University program where was the head coach from 1981 until the program's end in 2014. In addition to his coaching duties, he runs the Carl Adams World Class Wrestling Camp, invented several wrestling takedown machines, and has published books and videos about the sport.
