Biography

Barney Harford (born May 28, 1969) is a British-American technology executive. In 2017 he was named chief operating officer of Uber. Harford was previously CEO of Orbitz.com, a travel fare aggregators. Prior to Orbitz Worldwide, Barney worked as an executive at Expedia from 1999 to 2006, including serving as President of Expedia Asia Pacific in 2004. Harford sold Orbitz to Expedia in 2015 for $1.6 billion. Harford is on the board of directors for United Airlines and RealSelf.

Harford was hired in 2017 by Uber to oversee the brand in the wake of scandals and criticism. In 2018, Harford made comments during a conference call with Uber employees about an advertisement depicting a mixed-racial couple. In the meeting, Harford commented that two black women in the advertisement looked the same because of their haircuts, among other racially insensitive comments.

Personal life

Harford is married to Expedia executive Alexandra Birnbaum.
