Biography

Ashok Salian (born May 28, 1954, Mumbai) is an Indian photographer. His photography ranges from fashion photography to art photography, also successfully combining the two.
He grew up in the city of Mumbai, where he set up a lab processing company, thus gaining technical expertise in processing. In 1987 he got his first photography campaign.

Career

Ashok featured in the L’Archive, the New York Festival and the One Show. He was also awarded the Asian Photography ‘Photographer of the Year’ award in 2002 and in 2004 felicitated by the Government of Maharashtra, India with an award for ‘Important contribution to Indian Photography’. Soon thereafter he made another mark with an award for Photography in 2005 by the Rotary Club.

Ashok was requested to direct a few commercials. His debut commercial as a director for ‘Killer Jeans’ was nominated for the best debut director of the year award in 1997.

Two films for Wave Cinemas’ led to yet another prominent award, one of India’s foremost advertising award – ‘AAA of I’ who awarded him two bronzes for excellence in film-making at the Goafest in 2007.

Ashok recently concluded a solo show of his art works in Milan 2010. Although active in art photography, he is fascinated with film-making and we can expect his next project to be nothing less than perfect.
