Biography

Āpihai Te Kawau (?–1869) was a leader of the New Zealand Māori iwi (tribe) of Ngāti Whātua.

On 20 March 1840 in the Manukau peninsula area, Te Kawau signed the Treaty of Waitangi.

He was the uncle of Pāora Tūhaere, who succeeded him as a leader of Ngāti Whātua.
