Biography
Anton Jones (Sinhala: ඇන්ටන් ජෝන්ස්) is a Sri Lankan musician. He was a major figure in Sinhala baila and had several hits that include "Mini Gawuma" and "Uyala Pihala." Jones had released 37 cassettes and eight CDs and often tackled contemporary events in his songs. His most recent album Sebe Siddhi discussed the effects of the tsunami that hit Sri Lanka.
He died on 21st of February 2016.
Life and career
Overview
Jones was born to Burgher family and grew up on St. Sebestian's Street in Hulftsdorp. He entered music under the guidance of Wally Bastian in the early 1950s. In 1958 he performed for the first time in front of a live audience for a Radio Ceylon event.
For the duration of his musical career, Jones also worked as an English stenographer for a state bank. He retired in 1997 completing 35 years of service.
Personal life
Jones is married to Iris Jones and has two sons and two daughters. His sons Tyronne and Jude lives in Paris, France.
