Biography

Ángela Vázquez (born 2001) is a Mexican singer.

She is a part of the Mexican musical trio, Vázquez Sounds –– the other two members being her brothers, Gustavo Vázquez and Abelardo Vázquez.

Early life

Ángela was born on 17 January 2001 in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico. She has two elder brothers, Gustavo Vázquez (born 15 May 1998,) and Abelardo Vázquez (born December 23, 1995.) Their father, Abelardo Vázquez, is a music producer and has worked with various Mexican bands such as Reik, Nikki Clan and Camila among others.

Career

Growing up in a musical family, the three siblings began creating music at an early age. Taking their passion seriously, they formed the band Vázquez Sounds, with Ángela as the lead vocalist and on piano, harmonica, and and banjo; Gustavo on drums, guitar, banjo, harmonica, and piano; and Abelardo on guitar, bass, piano, harmonica, accordion, keyboard, and vocals.

In October 2011, they launched their YouTube channel Vázquez Sounds.

In November 2011, they released on YouTube their cover of Adele's "Rolling in the Deep". The video went viral, amassing millions of views in a few days, and earned the trio air-time on CNN, VH1 and Good Morning America. The single peaked at number one on the Mexican Top 100 Chart, and was certified platinum by the AMPROFON (Asociación Mexicana de Productores de Fonogramas y Videogramas.)

Shortly after they released their second single, a rendition of Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You", which peaked number two on the top 10.

On 17 January 2012, on Angela's 12th birthday, they released their third song, a cover of CeeLo Green's "Forget You," which also caused a stir on YouTube.

Their soaring popularity earned them a contract with Sony music. They released their eponymous album in April 2012. In September 2014, under Sony, they released their second album, "Invencible," which earned them a Latin Grammy nomination for "Best New Artist."

After Invencible, the band split from Sony and has remained independent since. They released their latest album, Phoenix, in November 2019.
