Biography

Andrius Zakarauskas (born 1982) is a painter from Lithuania.

Biography

Zakarauskas was born and raised in Kaunas, later studied in Vilnius Academy of Arts. Since 2004 he participated in many group exhibitions in Europe and the USA. Since 2005 he held solo shows in Lithuania as well as abroad.

Work

Zakarauskas's works often have no plot and are on the edge of abstraction. In many compositions he uses anonymous male figure that represents a painter. Significant means of expression is a fragmentary motifs, such as interior "framing", zoom and magnification of its individual parts.Through his works Zakarauskas explores the relations between painting and a painter, raises the questions of the creator's status and the place of painting in the world of art.

His paintings are characterised by a considerable amount of intimacy and self-reflection.

Awards

In 2009 he won the competition of "Young Painter Prize" in Lithuania.

In 2011 he was awarded with Young Creator Award from the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania.
