Biography

Aminu K. Bello (MBBS, MMedSci, PhD, FASN, FRCP, FACP) is a Nigerian Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Alberta and Consultant Nephrologist at the University of Alberta Hospital.

Personal life and education

Aminu Bello is a son of Jibril Aminu. He attended Usmanu Danfodiyo University in Nigerian city Sokoto from 1992 to 1998 where he got his MBBS. From 2000 to 2002 he was a resident at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Nigeria, where he got his training in General Internal Medicine. Following it, Aminu moved to UK where by 2003 he was awarded with MMedSci with Distinction in Nephrology from the University of Sheffield. In addition to MMedSci he also got a PhD in Nephrology and Epidemiology in 2007 from the same institution after completing a five-year course with Meguid El Nahas.

While still a student in University of Sheffield he applied for a fellowship and became Clinical Fellow in Nephrology and Honorary Lecturer at the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. From 2010 to 2011 Aminu was a Clinical Fellow in Nephrology and Transplantation at the University of Alberta, Canada, and until 2012 was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Nephrology at the same institution where his mentor was Marcello Tonelli. Since 2012 he serves as a Consultant Physician, specializing in kidneys and in 2013 became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians.

Career

As an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry of University of Alberta, Aminu Bello writes articles in various peer reviewed journals, including; The Lancet, JAMA, The BMJ and Kidney International. He also is a Co-Chair of the Global Kidney health Atlas Project under the auspices of the International Society of Nephrology Bello also wrote the 2019 World Kidney Day Steering Committee along with Deidra C. Crews and Gamal Saadi.
