Biography

Amel Karboul (Tunisian Arabic: آمال كربول), born April 25, 1973 in Tunis, is a Tunisian politician and business leader. She is the first woman to occupy the post of Minister of Tourism in the country, in the government of Mehdi Jomaa been operating since 29 January 2014.

Biography

Amel Karboul comes from a family of Djerba. Her father Mohamed Karboul received his Ph.D. in economics in Germany, and held the post of Secretary of State in the Ministry of the Interior in the first Baccouche government. Later he became Tunisian ambassador to West Germany.

Education and career

Karboul received a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Karlsruhe (Germany) in 1996 and systemic coaching certification from the Kiel Institute for the World Economy in 2002. She was senior consultant and executive coach at the HeitgerConsulting Group in Europe, focusing on systemic approaches to learning and leadership at the organizational, team and individual levels. Later she became managing partner of a research group investigating the challenges and opportunities around international leadership development. Amel is also a member of the Duke Corporate Education Global Learning Resource Network (US and UK) and a visiting faculty member at ZFU (Switzerland).
