Albrecht Dürer the Elder (German: Albrecht Dürer der Ältere, often abbreviated Albrecht Dürer d. Ä.; Hungarian: Ajtósi Albert; c.1427 – before 20 September 1502) was a Hungarian goldsmith and the father of the Northern Renaissance painter Albrecht Dürer. He was born in Ajtós, near Gyula in Hungary, where his father Antal was a goldsmith. In 1455, seeking wider commercial opportunities, he moved to Nuremberg, where he died. He is the subject of several of his son's portraits.
